The River Yamuna –Issues and solutions

[[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”878″,”attributes”:{“class”:”media-image”,”id”:”2″,”style”:”display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;”,”typeof”:”foaf:Image”}}]] There is not one drop of Natural Fresh River Water in River Yamuna in Delhi & Beyond. Almost 97% of Original River Waters are taken away from River Yamuna, only a few kilometers from its birthplace – Yamnotri. What flows in Mathura – Vrindavan is simply filthy and heavily polluted sewage from Shahdra Drain of Delhi, polluted Hindon and other smaller wastewater drains. No amount of treatment can bring the qualities of Fresh natural water in a river. The river needs dilution capacity – minimum ecological flow at all costs. Any river does. Despite of Supreme Courts approved High Powered Committee’s directives, the minimum adequate flow of Natural Fresh Waters is not being allowed to flow in River Yamuna. Millions of religious/spiritual tourist visits the temple towns on River Yamuna every year. It is a shame that they are duped into bathing and drinking the filthiest of waters as none of them realize that it is only poisonous sewage. Their spiritual emotions and faith are being hoodwinked.  We stand for bringing Back River Yamuna to its people, wildlife and ecology. Take YOUR stand for River Yamuna. Ask for Adequate natural fresh waters to flow through the entire stretch of Yamuna River. This shall dilute its uncontrolled pollution and bring back the original river back to its people, wildlife and ecology. Sign your online petition which shall make the difference![[{“type”:”media”,”view_mode”:”media_original”,”fid”:”878″,”attributes”:{“class”:”media-image”,”id”:”2″,”style”:”display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right:...

India’s Dying Goddess – A Report by YALE University on Yamuna River

Early this year, at the point in northern India where the Yamuna River empties into the Ganges, several hundred people set out on a six-week protest march. They were aiming to gather strength in numbers en route to New Delhi, the national capital, halfway up the Yamuna River. The river itself was the subject of their protest, and the popular chant was “Yamuna Bachao, Pollution Bhagao!”—meaning “Save the Yamuna, Stop the Pollution!” They had ample cause for complaint. The Yamuna River starts out clear as rainwater from a lake and hot spring at the foot of a glacier, 19,200 feet up in the Himalayas. But for much of its 853-mile length, it is now one of the world’s most defiled rivers. Agricultural demand repeatedly depletes the river’s flow. Rapid modernization of the Indian economy since the 1980s has added thousands of manufacturing plants to the Yamuna’s watershed, with little thought given to how much water they take out or how much pollution they add back. And urbanization has roughly quintupled the population of New Delhi, from about 3.5 million people 30 years ago to more than 18 million today. In some places, the Yamuna is now so heavily exploited that broad swaths of riverbed lie naked and exposed to the sun for much of the year. In other places, the river is a sudsy, listless morass of human, industrial and agricultural wastes, literally an open sewer. Given that 60 million people depend on the river for bathing and drinking water, a protest might seem inevitable. The surprising thing, at least to untutored Western eyes, was that the leaders of...

Yamuna Yatra Meeting at Rasa Kuñja, Barṣāṇā

There was a meeting on May 19th with regard to the save the Yamuna project. Due to governmental lethargy, asecond yatra, by vehicle, has begun from the same location, to go to the various surrounding districts and villages to create ‘an awareness’ and gain support in the future case against the goverment. This is such a monumental venture, which will require an added drive to get the job done. In attendance were, Śrī Ramesh Bābājī Mahārāja, Kokilavan Mahant, Bhanu Pratap, Jaya Sri Kṛṣṇa dasa, Rajendra Sing and Jal Purush, the water minister, environmentalists and social workers. It is inspirational how different persons from various backgrounds have been brought together for this noble cause. Each spoke with such heart-felt conviction, concluding with Bābā Śrī’s over whelming and commanding kirtan and lecture, inspiring and solidifying the hearts of all. He is performing a great feat, inspiring/empowering others on a long road, an eventual victory, all the while giving all credit to Śrī Ji, and those in service to Her. Every effort undertaken by Śrī Ramesh Bābājī Mahārāja is victorious, a feature of his ‘predestined presence’. What a great fortune is there for anyone who also assists him in this way. A hidden mystery around this important cause is a unification of not only individuals, but also collectives, religious organizations, unions, and governmental agencies, who will all benefit respectively according to their goals. Such is the power and purpose this event, then why not instead of watching a spiritual history go by, join, and become part of a spiritual...

‘Yamuna – Back to Braj’ Campaign Startles Mumbai

I came Bombay in the morning with Sanjeev Jindal to attend ISKCON Juhu temple ‘Save Yamuna Programs’. Temple president ‘Braj Hari Prabhu’ arranged everything with the weeping heart for Yamuna Ji. Since morning to evening I addressed 4 huge meetings in Juhu ISKCON temple in front of thousands of devotees. Many many devotees are attached with this issue now ‘by heart’. Very successful it was. All the devotees joined ‘Save Yamuna Nagar Sankeertan’ from Juhu temple to Juhu temple via Juhu beach. It took almost 1 hour. Very much inspiring it was. So many devotees from India and abroad attended this protest (Program) very enthusiastically. Many popular personalities also came as special guests. Soordas Prabhu compared very nicely. First of all Anuradha Paudwal had spoken very specific and to the point. She said, ” we all are concerned with ‘Yamuna Maiya’. We are not talking about pollution of Yamuna because there is no pollution in Yamuna Ji, because there is NO YAMUNA AT ALL IN BRAJ VRINDAVAN !. There is only polluted drains coming from anywhere else. So please bring back our mother river Shri Yamuna JI to her own home ‘Braj-Vrindavan’.” Then one very popular writer Ram Govind (who wrote Ramayan & Mahabharat TV Serial) spoke that Shri Krishna also cleaned this river Yamuna by removing serpent ‘Kaliya’ but today a huge serpent ‘Kaliya’ entered again into the river. This river is poisoned again. We must come forward to do something to clean Yamuna Ji. Then I was requested to show the reality to everyone. Everybody was shocked after watching the current status of Yamuna Ji. Specially Pandit...

Jantar Mantar Demostration Called off But NOT the Save Yamuna Campaign

Radhe Radhe! Finally Yamuna Bachao agitation has been called off today after the Mahapanchayat. After the constitution of an independent committee involving government officials and members of Shri Maan Mandir Save Sansthan and President of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Bhanu), it was decided that committee will work on the action plan in phases for freeing Yamuna water from the clutches of Hathani Kund in Haryana which blocks over 80% of the Yamnotri water. It is important to notice that ISKCON is stepping forward the yamuna cause. In the effort, one of the major Mumbai and Delhi ISKCON centers came forward and staged demonstrations at various places. Not only that, they invited concerned celebrities to attract media so that we get better coverage to spread the words. ISKCON joining the movement is definitely at BIG step forward. Delhi center offered free feast to the participants of the demonstration at Jantar-Mantar and performed melodious sankeertan. If all Krishna devotees worldwide join hands, we can surely bring our Braj back to its original...
